BSNL 3G Technology - Video Call - India Growing

Today was full of surprises! 


One of them - my first video call using BSNL 3G technology.


The first hand experience was OK !


Few good things:

• New technology available at cheap rates (30 paise per min for a video call, new SIM and other charges are less than Rs 200/-)


• Cheap 3G-ready mobiles available in market (less than Rs 5000/-)


• Surprising easily to procure the 3G prepaid cards, timely activation (just 2 to 4 hours) and hassle free BSNL experience


• 2 camera mobiles (front and rear) have advantage of using both cameras


• Surprisingly, video calls don't drop in between like voice calls. I tried it for more than 20 mins in continuation without a single drop in signal

Limitations:

• Typical installation (initial setup in mobile) procedure (but made easy by me for Nokia users... see below)


• Videos jerky to & fro


• Real video call is through front camera but they are of low MP (resolution)


• Currently there were mismatch in audios and videos. Not too much

Installation Procedure for Nokia users:

• Insert BSNL 3G SIM card in your 3G compatible mobile handset


• Change your Network Mode (Menu, Tools, Settings, Phone, Network, Network Mode) to UMTS (surprisingly Dual Mode didn't work on my Nokia E71 mobile)


• Change your Operator  (Menu, Tools, Settings, Phone, Network, Operator) to CellOne 


• sms NOKIA  ModelNo to 19000 (e.g. NOKIA E71)


• You will receive 4 configuration SMSes


• Open all four with Passcode: 1111  and save the configuration (Options, Save)


• 4 New Access Points (bsnllive, bsnlmms, bsnlnet and bsnlstream) will be added (Menu, Tools, Settings, Connection, Access Points)


• use bsnllive for downloading contents like ringtones,wallpaper, animation, theme, video, latest mp3 songs , movies, games etc


• use bsnlmms for sending/receiving mms


• use bsnlnet for 3G data access (surfing)


• use bsnlstream for data streaming of various content i.e :Movies, Videos Clips and Live Tv Channels, available at BSNL Live Portal. This setting is to be saved in the Media player of Mobile Handset


• Now you are ready to make/receive a video call :-))


• Dial the receiver's number and select Video Call

LAST PIECE:

After reading all this, if you get excited to go for 3G then you will need one more thing - your video call receiver should be 3G-mobile ready (currently it's difficult to find, but you can always call me on 0-8989006967.)

RECOMMENDATION:

I would recommend all the tech-savvy young students to give a try. It's light on your pocket too.
