It's amazing all the feelings that you experience when you make a major life change, like moving somewhere. Being in a new place with all new people is exhilarating, at times, and downright depressing at others. The key, I have found, is to acknowledge these feelings but never let them take you over. Since I moved to Atlanta, I have tried to keep the most positive attitude I can. Of course I miss my family and friends at home, but rather than focus on that, I try to focus on the family I have here like my amazing cousin Ryan and my sister Kathryn - who I used to miss so much when I was in Buffalo - and all the new friends that await me. Rather than focusing on the things I miss doing in Buffalo, I think of all the exciting new things I can now do in Atlanta. Any major change can be as positive or as negative as you want it to be, it simply depends on what perspective you decide to take on it. I myself am chosing a positive one this time around. :)
Today I had my first big job interview down here. Tomorrow I work my first shift at the Cheesecake Factory. Friday I am going out with my soon-to-be roomate who I just met last week, and Saturday I am hoping to continue the apartment hunt. I'm finally doing it, all the things I wanted to do, and I really am proud of myself. Some days I feel a little blah and a bit unenthusiastic, but I know I just have to keep trying my best to meet people, put myself out there, get involved and find a job. Things don't happen overnight, but I'm doing all the right things to get myself exactly where I want to be - settled in a fabulous new city with a bunch of new friends and a fantastic job that I never could've gotten in Buffalo.
Here's to all the people who put themselves out there and make changes in their lives simply because they can. Here's to all the people who choose to strive for something more, who challenge themselves when they could just as easily choose not to, who believe in their dreams and want to do whatever it takes to make them come true, and most importantly to those who choose to wander, often without any apparent reason, simply because they would rather search and explore than stay stagnant in one place. Here's to me, here's to you, and here's to all the good things that come from daring to leave our comfort zones and venture out into the unknown!
"The fact is, that to do anything in the world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in and scramble through as well as we can."
