Musings for a Muse

Dearest inspiration,

Yet again I lay awake trying to close my eyes, hoping to catch the elusive you in my sub conscious. But as always you stay true to who you are. A man’s thirst for water in the desert will even be satisfied by the mirage of an oasis. He takes in the dirt and sand just as he would the life giving elixir. And so as I walk past a few more moments, a few more winks of sleep, a few more nights and days and the memories that accompany them, I too encounter the oasis that plagues many a lost traveler.

Enticing me with an adventurous safari or a wade through the jungles of an unknown tropical forest that impostor called the ‘vivid dream’ seeks to be my mistress. Not even the thrill of saving the day or the chance encounter with the legends of my ancestors will ever come close to replacing your rightful place. None of her thrills can compare to the magic that you are, the hopes that you fill in me and the need that I have for you.

You are a moment of madness, a spark of brilliance the reason to exclaim ‘Eureka’ in the nude in front of a citadel, you are the epiphany that reminds one of their life’s true quests and yet you show yourself only to a chosen few. In divine or angelic form or oracle like voice you manifest yourself to announce aloud to them those blissful words which they knew were hidden deep within them. You uncover the genius of science just in the same way that you deliver the prophecies of a religion.

Why must you keep away from all us mortals a chance to be great?
You here my plea and smirk at my obsession. You say in response that you are and always will be as ubiquitous as the ether in the universe and even the strangest of creations might one day allure me to your presence.

So I trust your wisdom and judgment, and hope that I may be fortunate to see you in true light, may be as a spider climbing up a wall or perhaps as a beautiful companion that would guide my way.

Yours forever,
The thirsty traveler
