Nokia buys mobile analytics company Motally

Nokia have announced that they are acquiring Motally, a privately held US-based mobile analytics startup.

Motally currently operates a mobile analytics service which offers in-application tracking and reporting, and is designed to enable developers to optimize the development of their apps through increased understanding of how users engage with their creations. Such services have become increasingly important with the advent of easily installable mobile apps, that are made possible by app stores such as Apple's or Nokia's Ovi.

Nokia plans to adapt the Motally solution for Qt, Symbian, Meego and Java developers, while also continuing to serve Motally's existing customer base.

This makes a lot of sense for Nokia and for developers interested in creating apps for Nokia's platforms, as well as the mobile web, and hopefully the newly adapted service will be available for developers as soon as possible. If the tracking and reporting inside Motally's tech is minute and accurate enough, there is the potential for developers to absolutely love this.

The transaction is expected to close before the end of September.
