Sri Lanka Commissioner of Motor Vehicles D. L. Dharmapriya says that around 2,000 people die due to fatal motor accidents every year in the island.

The total number of fatalities and fatalities among different road users has risen sharply in recent years.
Increase in number of vehicles and poor development of road infrastructure combined with the reckless driving are the main causes of ever increasing trend and the alarming numbers of fatality in traffic accidents, the experts say.
The Commissioner also said that the new driving license has been produced with state-of-the-art technology and cannot be forged. He also asked the public not to be victims of swindlers when obtaining licenses.
