WWE NXT 8/17/10

They are going to eliminate two tonight. I am starting to wonder if some of the better one's will join the Nexus as they weed out the less than stellar performers, seems like a good idea to me as long as it does not get diluted.

They start off by introducing everyone. And we are getting a one minute speak off about anything but why they should win, and Watson is first and his topic is 3-D. This translates to Desire, Determination and Dedication and he twitches as he says it. Riley is next and his topic is himself. And he wonders if he should have changed his act, and been nicer, and should not have said so many mean things. It was funny when he said that Lucky Cannon should be a bartender....but he stumbled a bit in his speech. Michael McGillicutty, is going to discuss his competition and it is clear he has turned heel as he goes right after Watson and his smile and thinks he is scared. Now he makes of fun of Kaval and basically says he is a Chihuahua, and just tells Harris that he is the one winning, and he calls Riley, the Otunga of this season, all talk and no skills, and that was funny. Kaval does a rap, and he stumbles a bit but he manages to recover but says Total Non-Stop Action, which may have irked Cole a bit.....I wonder if anyone caught that when they wrote it. Harris babbles about cowboy boots. There will be an elimination right now and it is Percy Watson. The fans are a bit sad. Percy is sad too. He starts off by thanking everyone for their support and MVP, and he will continue to work and get better and he will still have fun...he gets a lukewarm "Oh yeah" from the crowd.

Match 1: Michael McGillicutty v. Zack Ryder

Poor Ryder, no more RAW or even victories for him and that may be for the best but he is better than Santino. Ryder pushes McGill away but gets cocky and is nailed with a clothesline. McGill hits a dropkick and then clotheslines him out of the ring. He misses with a slide and crushes him with a big boot. Back in the ring he drops some knees on him and now pounds on him in the corner. He attempts a cover but only gets two. McGill gets up and he takes charge with a series of running elbows and starts pummeling Ryder in the corner. McGill takes him down with a back body drop but gets his throat bounced off the top rope and McGill is done after the RoughRyder.

Not a bad match and it is first win for Ryder in some time. I think I was wrong about McGill being a heel, he is playing a tweener more than anything.

LayCool is singin and jiving with Kaval. Michelle wants to know if there was something going on between Kaval and Layla. Harris comes in and hits on Michelle and she blows him off.

Match 2: Husky Harris v. Kaval

Harris takes him down and tires for a suplex but Kaval knees him in the head but Harris just shoves Kaval through the turnbuckle. He football tackles Kaval in the corner and goes for the pin but only gets a two count. The fans get behind Kaval as he connects with a mean looking rolling kick. Kaval charges at him and hits him with some double sledges and he gets a two count after a springboard kick. Harris tries for a front slam but messes it up and gets a two count. It looks like he is going for his rolling splash but stops and Kaval ends up winning with his flying foot stomp.

Kaval looked good but Harris really stumbled at the end with two big mental errors, he has potential and would work pretty good with Nexus. But he needs more seasoning.

Match 3: Alex Riley v. Kofi Kingston

Riley starts strong and slams Kofi down and gets a two count. Riley grabs the hair and slams him to the mat. He takes his time in climbing up and gets caught with a boot. Now Kofi is manhandling him as he connects with a flurry of kicks and a big standing leg drop. Kofi makes short work of him with Trouble in Paradise.

Riley looked really bad here.

Wow most of this show has been recaps and video packages. I thought that Riley was supposed to have some segments on RAW, and any minor push for him was taken away. Anyway Cole thinks the one guy who cannot wrestle should win, Riley and that Kaval who is an "Internet darling" should go home. Josh Mathews concurs....which is odd but they know that the WWE Universe will think the exact opposite that they do too.

Husky Harris is done for. Cody is all fired up. And he makes fun of Ryder and Michelle and none of it was really a dis as Rhodes still struggles with promos. Harris wants to speak for himself but Rhodes will not let him. He says that Riley is awful and that McGill does not deserve to be called Mr. Perfect, mean but true. Rhodes attacks Kaval and Harris joins in and Kofi and MVP come down to help and chase of Rhodes and the beat down Harris, I loved how Cole said they were trying to calm him down as they throw him into the barrier! Kaval leaps from the top and nails Harris. Husky is told to leave and he and Cody are bitter as they back away towards the back.

The right people got eliminated, though Watson should have went longer but I see that they wanted to have Kaval and Harris go at it one more time and it set up the ending. Riley has charisma and McGill is in the middle. I wonder if anything will be done with the two eliminated, if they will come back before the season is out or next season or join the Nexus. The wrestling was mediocre but Kaval looked good and it is obvious he should win.
