In the Netherlands, in the southern city of Breda, they have been celebrating this holiday since about 2005. It is officially on the first weekend of September, and it is for natural redheads only! Initially, when this holiday first accidentally happened—because of an artist who was staging a photograph—less than 100 redheads came. In subsequent years, hundreds of them came! Then, thousands, from all over the world! So, I say this... It's about time we celebrate my kind!!
Here I am last year...in 2009. I never wear lipstick!
I was just playing around, just for fun... It was fun!
Well, it is one of my too-many selfportraits! I was already growing older then... And since I am not a famous movie star, nor a famous fashion model, except in this blog! Nor a young girl anymore... No one had photographed me for years! I think many of us, who have no photographs in our lives, for huge great giant gaps of years, with the advent of those tiny handheld cellphone cameras, and digital photography, all went a bit mad!
But you know... Otherwise this article about redheads, would have had to have been about Niclole Kidman, not me! (I don’t think she’ll mind if we share.) She is my sister, after all! We are fellow gingers! (As they say in the UK.) Or fellow rangas, as they say in Australia. (Where that girl is from.) We are fellow redheads!! I was mostly just called spitfire... (And, well, other things.) But more about that in awhile.
So, for awhile, it seemed we would go extinct! By as early 2060, they said! The news travelled all over the internet, all over the world, maybe a year or two ago. But scientists have debunked that now. They say that, although we will remain rare, we will not go extinct anytime soon. And that, in fact, the scientists who claimed this fact, were actually scientists who worked for a company that manufactured red hairdye! How insidious is that?!
Oh, well...
I mean, oh, no! Oh good!!
I mean, I'm really glad about that!
I'm glad we won't go extinct.
It’s just, I will have to forgo a favorite joke of mine... (I made it up myself.) Where I say I will to have to apply to the federal government, for special dispensations, for special compensations... For special privileges and what. On account of being a redhead! On account of being an endangered species! (It was one of my better jokes.)
But, I am pleased we will be around.
I liked being a redhead!
From this Dutch girl in Seattle, proost!
Happy Redhead Day!~~bernadette...=)

Reflections, Ramblings, Ruminations... Are you a redhead? Dawg!! What fun! Happy to know ya, then. Did people think you were magic? Did people try to touch your head, for good luck? Are you good luck?! I know, right?! Me too.=)
