1988 Audi 80 Quattro Sedan - Cheap (Grasshoppers Not Included)

Am I missing something here?

This car appears to have a nice body. The interior looks very good. It's AWD. The seller says it runs well. It has power locks, power windows, heated seats and a sunroof. It's only flaws seem to be some out of balance tires and peeling clearcoat.

Why is this $999.00?

The B3 80 was introduced in 1986. It is one of Audi's best sedan designs. In my eyes it is their very best sedan design. It's a shape that still looks good 24 years after its introduction. (It is also one of the few cars from the 1980s that does not usually have a serious rust problem. Audi's rust prevention treatment was the best in the industry back then and these cars - even high mileage ones that have spent time in the snow belt - usually have minimal rust.)

The Audi 80 was the cheaper of the Audi 80 / 90 range. It has cloth seats, gray rubber bumpers and a few less luxury touches than the 90. (I actually like the interior in the 80 better than the one found in the 90. Without the wood accents it has a very old-school German, purposeful look to it. - The rubber bumpers do take away from the look of the exterior, however.) The standard engine was a 4 cylinder as opposed to the 5 cylinder engine that came standard in the 90. The Quattro system is the same and the 80 is a fun, safe car to drive.

Common problem with these cars are electrical gremlins (windows, sunroof, thing like that) and automatic transmission issues, which is irrelevant here as this car is a 5 speed.

I see no reason for this car to be selling for the price it's being offered at. Yes, the mileage is high, but a well maintained Audi 80 can easily do 250,000 miles. It would be a great winter car. Unless you put on 3000 miles a month on your car, you should be able to get another 2 or 3 winters out of this car. (If you buy this car, take the bra off the hood. Not only does it look bad, but they tend to trap moisture and cause rust and/or damage the paint.)

I wish I lived closer to this car. This car would command half as much (or maybe twice as much) more here in New England.

Located in Fort Collins, CO, (where the grasshoppers seem to really like old Audis) click here to see the Craigslist ad for this car. http://justacargeek.blogspot.com/2010/08/1988-audi-80-quattro-sedan-cheap.html
