First, I'd like to thank all of you for coming by here and Blotanical to wish me a great birthday! THANK YOU!!! Don't know how I rated this year - last year Blotanical never even mentioned my birthday. I must have been holding my tongue right this year. ;-)
When Bob asked what I would like for my birthday I said why don't we just take a drive to the beach. As it ended up it was a good idea because it was going to be so hot here I'd just have to close up the house and sit in front of the fan. So before we left he surprised me with a cake and ice cream. So what red blooded american girl can just sit and look at cake and ice cream without having some - no matter what time of day it is. As I dove into it I said this had to be the breakfast of champions - well that's my logic and I'm sticking to it . . .
Imagine my surprise when I opened the curtains out to the deck and saw this HUGE Lacecap Hydrangea Teller's Blue (but I'm tellener it better stay pink I already have a blue one) sitting right outside the door. I had looked at it a few days before and told him how gorgeous it was - not thinking he'd remember the conversation.
Well he did (whatta guy!) and went and got it for me. Even my card had Hydrangeas on it. The blooms were so large I had even put my hand over one of them and took a picture to show him. I just happened to have my camera that day while taking pictures for a post to do later on the nursery.

What a gorgeous color - I sure hope I can keep it that way.

We left for the beach where it continued to get cooler - what a relief and so much nicer than being shut up in the house. We went through Astoria past the Megler Astoria bridge which is so long it's impossible to get a close picture. It's something like 4 miles across the Columbia river.

I'm not sure where I took this as we went to Seaside, Canon Beach and a couple of other little towns. I thought this was kind of neat.

But this one was really cool!

And of course what is a trip to the beach without a picture of the beach. It was a little foggy but looked great hanging over the hills.
