Chess Matches in Washington Square Park Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m., the young grandmaster Alex Lenderman will take on challengers to raise funds for the Cadre theater company and its production of “Art of Attack,” a play about two chess-playing brothers that is running at La MaMa, 74 East Fourth Street, East Village, as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, fringenyc.org. Prizes include tickets to the show as well as chess sets and free lessons provided by the New York Chess and Game Shop in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Holley Plaza, Greenwich Village , artofattackplay.com; $10 per game.
