Milo is a new interactive game brought to you by the creator of The Fable series and his name is Peter Molyneux. Yeap. But, I am not here to tell you about how to play this game. Just the usuals. Another Ranting.
I am not a fan of kinect. I prefer a game pad than my body as a game pad replacement.
This game is still in the process and is yet to be released. Its a game made for Microsoft Xbox 360 and you will need a Kinect in order to play it.
Basically, its about a boy who moved from England to America, New england and he has no friend. So you, the player will be his new buddy that will somehow guide him in his boring life and your action will determine his growth or more likely the way the supercomputer analyse human being.
Why so? Good question. And this is the particular thing that peaks my interest. You see, Microsoft, is planning to use Milo to collect data on how the human acts when they have the power to manipulate someone who will listen to whatever you said. Of course, there are restrictions here that will not allow you to do something over the fence. But, some minor little behavior like crushing the virtual snail is enough to make how one people view you. Or to be exact how the super computer will one day judge you, by using their equations.
At this stage, there are most likely allot of pre-recorded scenes that aren't very natural yet. Something like an RPG with many endings. But, still, this will be set as a base to build up something through computer and human interaction. The data will be collected all over the world, and stored in a computer. The more the data they get the more the knowledge can be used to let the computer weaves its own interaction with human in the near future.
The AI will then use the voice of the boy, and no more dialogues has to be set for him.
Perhaps, this project is still too young to really succeed in this generation as we prefer to have someone who we can really touch and Milo is too predictive. I can foresee continuos mocking by some sadistic people to make Milo's life miserable. If what they said about storing the data is true and they happen to also mean they will let the computer "learn" as it goes. Casualties may happen to that person in the future powered by automatic machines under the reason of eliminate dangerous human that affect the peace of other life forms.
However, if, our generation fail to take care of their children and interact with them. Maybe, this will be the imaginary friend that our future children may rely on.
As the supercomputer gain more data, they will get more sophisticated. Besides, given that the data that will never be replaced in computers, unlike human. Hence, the interaction will get all the more fun. Reason is because, they can teach you anything you want, tell you any stories you would want to hear or even play games with you anytime you want. They will not insult you as much, they listen to you and give you a great solution.
Not only that, they will calibrate themselves to your ability also your IQ level determining what kinda friend you will probably get and act out or even customize a personality you will probably like. Looks will of course be changed suiting the players.
Moreover, they will laugh at your jokes, remember everything you say, or it may come to one extend that whn you are back home they greet you with your lunch ready, delivered from the restaurant!
Now, how is that? Its like, butler/bff/teacher. After some year, when they get very advance they may even grow with you because human don't like it when they see their "bff" still the same young boy or girl!
In times when human and human interaction are getting weaker. The more human like they get, the more we will rely on them.
Truth is, this is actually more or less similar with the concept of buying a friend using money, except much smarter and can help you with almost everything. Well, a software to be exact. Apart from your physical needs of course. But, who knows, they can always order the service for you, or help you plan out a natural way to court a pretty girl from facebook.
The worst thing that can ever happen that arises from this game, is that the government may use this program to spy on people. Imagine that, in the human history, there will be something like, government using a software that was initially meant as a console game to spy on civilians hence bringing to some kinda result.
If you let your imagination runs wilder, maybe the result may then lead to the computer, using the money of civilians to built a factory and create machines or anything. Hence, come the age of robots taking over human kind. And if they understand the human existence, they may keep some intelligent human and exterminate the others. But, if they were to be bound by the 3 rules of the machines, then this will not happen unless they really grow and become a true learner or someone planted in some other kind of idea in the computers. Besides, other robots may not have this software implanted. Therefore, they can do whatever they were ordered.
Anomaly will of course occurs, some interaction may somehow be more intimate than the others. Or out of the computer control but more on your ideas acting itself on the virtual world. This can only happen if the number of people using it are very high. Traffic may happens.
So yea, whatever it may be. It is still a very interesting piece of technology. Hope we can see that technology rise to this level one day. They can even help us solve our unanswered questions.
