I have no idea what's come over me to decide to WRITE a blog--I mean, actually type words...and not just copy and paste images. At least the topic I chose is very relevant to me and the readers of this blog: homophobia. For whatever reason, I've decided for the next three days to take a break from posting pictures of hot guys, and instead, show some youtube videos about homophobia that I find really entertaining. Yes, for THREE days!
I can just see y'all exiting out the window right now. Well, alright, check back laterz!
Okay, so for the rest of you who are staying...
Here are some videos of the ever entertaining Most Hated Woman in America: Shirley Phelps-Roger. Following her father Fred Phelps's footsteps, she now runs the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. And I can for a fact say that their message hits very close to home (about 16 miles away, in fact). The title of this post may be an overstatement because Shirley would probably argue that everybody is a sinner, so God hates everybody, including her, her children, her parents.
But I can for a fact say that I LOVE watching her on television. With that creepy ever-present smile, and her shaggy long hair, and that sparkle in her eyes when she spills vile out her mouth. She is a personality, and this is entertainment in its rawest form.
The next video is from a documentary by British reporter Louis Theroux, who spent quite some time shadowing the lives of the Phelps family. Of the eight or so parts to this film, I think this is most representative of the entire project. We see happy children doing fun normal things, then we see them picketing...some of them not even sure what the sign they're holding up means. We see the insane things these people believe. And we also hear Fred Phelps utter one of my favorite lines ever, "You gonna eat cha babies!"
But the reason I chose this representative clip is due to the particular despicable reaction someone unleashed onto a young member of the church. Hate and violence is never the answer to anything. It's just plain wrong. Don't stoop to their level to get your point across.
I'm hoping to get a lot of responses. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, so I promise to not filter any comments even if it's hateful and mean. But everyone also has the capacity to censor themselves (okay, maybe not the Phelps family), so even if your fingers have the urge to type the C or B or F words, please resist it if you could. Or delete those bad words before you press 'publish'.
