I'm making an effort to return to reading books that fall outside of the "chick-lit" genre. I used to read anything and everything but lately, I've noticed that my default is the light-hearted books that qualify more as brain candy, rather than something that both stimulates my mind and challenges me to work just a little bit harder.
Not that there's anything wrong with chick-lit. It's kind of common knowledge that I love it. It's a good break from the daily grind, it's easy to read and it's just so delicious.
But I need to take a break. It's not them, it's me. I think I should see other people.
Which is why today, at the library, I found myself visiting an old friend that may jump start me on that path and give me that challenge I'm looking for. The only author to have his own number in the dewey decimal system. William Shakespeare.
Some may argue that ol Willy is still brain candy in a way, but I'm picking up with his histories (albeit, backwards) and am going to see where it leads me. I'll also be scouring book club lists, and of course, taking your recommendations if you'd like to offer them.
We'll see how long this lasts....
