Providing an educational, fun, positive environment is a goal of mine so that my students are able to enjoy playing the piano while learning the fundamentals of reading and playing music! As part of my approach to piano-teaching I encourage students to gain a proper understanding of basic techniques (correct hand positioning, posture, technical skills), especially in their early years, to help boost their musical development as they progress to higher levels of playing in the future. I also focus on ear-training skills (auditory) to help improve the student’s overall sense of rhythm, pitch and increase their confidence when performing a song by memory. When teaching written theory, I incorporate creative activities that build on note-reading and visual learning (drawing, colouring). My teaching techniques are flexible, depending on the learning styles and abilities of each individual student. “A painter paints his pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.” - Leopold Stokowski
