God! I got a heavy internet bill. Is viewing a video on Utube similar to downloading? Any 1 can suggest me pls

I usually view some video clips on U Tube. I have an internet connection which has a limit of downloading of 1GB. Today I got a shock seeing my internet bill (Extra Transfer Data 2GB) and for this extra charge I will have to pay. I suspect, may be this viewing of U-Tube on Internet. I just want to clarify this point and I hope to get some better suggestion on this matter.

God! I got a heavy internet bill. Is viewing a video on Utube similar to downloading? Any 1 can suggest me pls
edit:the guy above me is right, although using youtube in my area is free it may not be so wherever it is you are. Streaming media uses a lot of bandwidth and the flv files are stored in your temporary internet folder or "downloaded"in a less obvious way and can be moved to another folder and kept for later viewing.
Reply:the downloaded data 1Gb does not just involve the size that you actually saved on your computer from the internet, like downloading a software or something.

It involves all the data transferred while you surfed the internet.

when you regularly use your internet see the internet icon in the taskbar in the lower right corner and see the amount of data transferred.all of that also accounts in the "download limit"

watching you tube videos also involves transferring of data, watching or downloading is same here.
Reply:no. when u view vids on youtube you aren't downloading. if you have kids or teens in the house, beware or their activity, check your installed software on you computer and see if there's anything new, i.e. games, music.
Reply:i strongly suggest u not using internet connection like the one u have now ... i think it will be better if u can buy a dsl connection that u only need to pay a fixed amount ... u get the speed and u dont get the telephone bill plus u can take or receive any call to ur telephone line while ur using dsl ... if its even connected the whole month 24 hours a day with such an dsl connection u only need to pay the fixed prize ... its a lot better ...

free 1gb of downloads is just another marketing gimmik cuz they know that even if u use the explorer to surf the net still there are files that gets downloaded to ur computer to be able to view the web pages properly ... its actually like downloading through the net similar like that ... so it wont take much time to skip the 1gb free download limit ... in other words free stuff like these are just bullshit ... dont fall for these marketing tricks ...

im sorry but there is nothing u can do right now i feel sorry for u but there are many people who falls for this trick around dont get upset thinking ur the only one there are thousands ... there is something u can do u can go to the company or call the company where u get ur connection from and argue a bit saying that u didnt even know cuz u never downloaded such a huge file tell em that u only surfed the net ... i hope they will change there minds ... wish u all the best ...
Reply:every time you watch a youtube vid, that's a download
Reply:everytime you watch any video on youtube.it is similar to downloading.
Reply:Definitely. Watching/streaming online does use data so you have to watch out for that.
Reply:I think you should apply for a unlimited boardband so that if you watch utube video for long hours you also will not charge so many money.
Reply:Do you live in the USA?

If you do, you NEED to get an unlimited bandwith contract (which is the standard, i dont know HOW you'd manage to get a pay-by-the-bandwith contract in the US)

If you live in ... Canada... yeah....downloading videos gets to be...expensive. Call your provider and demand an unlimited bandwith contract, then cancel service with them if/when they refuse ;)

They'll start offering unlimited bandwith in your area sooner that way ^-^

Edit:

yes frankie, lil, using youtube IS downloading. You download the video, but you don't keep it stored on your harddrive.

weather you stream or download to desktop the videos you watch, they still charge you for the bandwith you used to get the video
Reply:yeah that's probably it! My suggestion is move to a place where they have unlimited internet! Where do you live?
Reply:you have simply over used your limit, 1Gb isn't very long to stay on the net, I suggest you upgrade or stop viewing youtube videos, If that's a monthly account boy one video and your history, you will really have to learn to budget.
