How To Know When You Have The Right Wedding Band

By Peter Brook

A band for your wedding is an essential part of any medium to large wedding reception. They set the mood; introduce the first dance, and perform other vital parts of the traditional wedding that most girls dream of one day experiencing. Here are a few tips to make choosing a wedding band less painful.

Traditional weddings require music. Having music at a wedding reception is not a new concept, either. Today's bands are very professional and most know exactly what it takes to help you make this event perfect. Hiring one to play at your special occasion used to be difficult and tedious work. That is not the case anymore. They are as abundant as caterers and bridal shops.

Finding anything these days is as easy as using your computer to look up possible candidates. However, the best way to find one is by word of mouth. If you know others who have been married in the past few years, ask them about their experience. The pastor or minister may also be helpful as many of them will hang around during the first part of a reception in case they are needed to speak and to promote their services by being seen. They may even have a favorite of their own. Many bands leave their calling card with the minister before they leave.

Most of the elements in your wedding are monetarily driven. For this reason, the more money spent, the better the quality of the element. This is not necessarily true of the wedding band. There are professionals that work for the money and are very highly touted and paid. Still others consider the gig as a great chance to practice, sharpen their skills, and to help overcome stage fright in their weakest members. You can expect to spend between one and three thousand dollars for a solid four hour gig.

Choosing a wedding band can be time consuming. To cut down on that precious time consider some options in advance. What kind of music do you want? Many wedding bands play a variety of music and that is very helpful but if you and your spouse to be are both into jazz, that is the way to go. Do you want a band with a front man? Perhaps you just prefer to have soft, subtle music in the background of the event. Having a few instruments should cost less than a full band with a lead vocalist.

Having your band under contract at an early stage of the wedding planning is always a very good idea. Whether you provide the contract or it is one of their standard forms, have a lawyer glance at it to ensure that both parties have agreed to the same thing and you may save yourself from any unpleasant surprises. You want to treat the hiring of your band with the same dedication you would the facilities or the caterer. After all, the they will set the tone of your reception.

Be very careful when deciding where the band will set up. An excellent floor plan at your wedding can be a very tricky thing. Do not put the bandstand near the buffet for the obvious reason. Also, be sure to place the band away from the wedding party tables. This will ensure the least amount of conflicting noise during toasting and personal well wishing. Friends and co-worker who attend will be much more at ease if they are closer to the band.

Remember that these professional wedding band rely on word of mouth advertising. Having one can make that special day even more magical. Enjoy your wedding and its memories by taking the time to find the perfect band for your wedding day.
