Every parent out there has had one of those moments where you're just about to completely lose all patience with your kid. Over chores, their attitude, their manners or showing disrespect. I had one of those moments this afternoon with Justin. He didn't want to do him homework...he was tired...it's not fair to have homework on the 2nd day of school etc. It was math, and not even hard math (Justin is on a 6th grade math level), it was just answering questions about a graph. After him spelling the word science wrong, four times (it was written on the paper...I was pointing at it !) I was just about to lose it. In that instant, before I could even say anything, a thought crossed my mind, and stopped me dead in my tracks. There are Mamas and Daddys out there that would do ANYTHING to be sitting at this table arguing with their child. There is a mom out there that didn't get to walk her babies to their classrooms Wednesday because of a horrible flood. A dad who will never play catch with his son because he lost him to leukemia before he was big enough to hold a baseball. Parents who should be planning on attending their son's football games, not his funeral. I know without even having to ask that those moms and dads would love to be arguing over homework.
This summer has been full of loss. Children taken to Heaven way before we feel they should have been. Our children are not ours alone. They are here because God chose us to take care of them for Him. But we're human, and parent's just aren't suppose to lose their kids ! We never know what's going to happen...when our last breath will be taken. We need to make sure that our kids know how much we love them. How proud we are of them. How blessed we are to have them in our lives. We need to make sure that we are leading them back to Him, not only with our words, but with our actions as well. We need to make memories (like getting at at 3 a.m. to watch meteor showers with Nanny =).
