More wallpaper removal

Anyone else having deja vu? I swear I've written this same post a trillion times. Today I scraped paper. It took forever because there are three layers of paper. Three layers of paper is clearly punishment from God for the bad things I did as a kid.

Haven't we talked about this all before? How you spray, you scrape, you spray, you scrape, you have wet, sticky bits of paper all over you, you spray, you scrape for hours on end and then FINALLY...

You have only completed one small section of wall. And then you want to punch somebody in the face.

This is my third day working in my dressing room, and I have to say... I like one day projects. I like quick little wallpaper removal jobs like taking off a crappy border or... or... I guess I have no other examples. I haven't had any other easy wallpaper removing jobs in this house. They have all sucked in their own punishing ways.

If it's not a foil, water-resistant paper, it's two layers of painted wallpaper that extends up two stories. And if it's not a two-story two-layer removal job, it's a three layer job. And if there's something I've learned this week it is that three layers sucks worse than two. I would say it pushes the suck factor up a good 33%. Maybe more. I'm not good at math.

So, aside from that little section of wall that I've cleared, this is what the rest of the dressing room looks like. Still two layers to go. Sob. Sob. Sob. I've got at least another day in here.

(When I say "day" I certainly don't mean 24 hours or even an 8 hour working day. I mean for the length of time that I can sneak away from the kids to scrape walls for a few hours (although one of them is usually in there with me either chatting or spraying stuff. Or applying my mascara to the carpet.). I'd say I have put in about 6-8 hours on this room so far and it will probably take at least another 2-3 to finish. So, it's not as if I've spent 72 hours at this, but I'm so over scraping wallpaper. It's gross. It's messy. It's monotonous.

And there's always more waiting for me around the corner:

Because there were three layers in the HERS closet, I got a little nervous that I might be in for another huge project in the HIS closet. So, Mr. Darcy scraped off a bit and the good news is... there's only two layers. Yay? Although the top layer has been painted, so that could push the horrible factor up significantly.

So, here's something perplexing to me:

This is the HIS closet, and that is pink and yellow striped wallpaper. What the... What?! I am so curious about how this came about. Did dudes in the 30's dig pink striped circus wallpaper? Or was Mr. Moser really a girl? Or was it like that tired House Hunters joke and the Mosers had HERS and HERS closets?

That's weird wallpaper for a guy's closet, right?
