Order iHOME Dual Alarm Clock Radio with AM and FM Presets for iPhone and iPod

i consider myself an audiophile, and have no problem spending lifetimes of money on home theater systems. i am exceptionally picky about my sound systems and demand the best. in particular, there's nothing i hate more about a speaker than for the speaker to remind me its there, as it relates to sound. for example, if a speaker does a poor job of producing low frequency noise and rattles on bass, it drives me crazy. which brings me to my now completed, long journey to find a high quality clock radio. i had been searching for a clock radio that also has some preset noises (e.g., rain, waterfalls, etc.). i bought some sharper image product that fit the bill, but produced very lackluster sound results. then i looked toward the bose products, but the best ones didn't have a clock, or anything preprogrammed. then i realized - target sells great nature sounds cds - how about i put those on my ipod and get a system like this. shazam! so while this device does not come with pre-loaded sounds, it does accept the ipod and, most importantly, produce shockingly great sound. i never expected a device to sound as great as this. it has a 3d sound feature that probably sounds awful for regular music, but makes nature noise (thunderstorms) sound particularly real and encompassing. even better, when the thunder strikes, it sounds realistic and i don't hear an awfully low quality driver rattle in the device. i have to admit that i'm particularly surprised with the ihome; i demo'ed other ihome products and they sounded like garbage. not so here.

i did compare it to the Sony Speaker Dock Clock Radio for iPod / iPhone (use this string of words to find it on amazon). i demoed both in the store on the same source, and this was infinitely better. the speakers in the sony simply sounded awful.

other aspects of the ihome that i really like:
- remote control - yes, kinda silly when you consider this device sits within arm reach, but its nice to have handy for varying volume, etc. even better, though, the remote fully controls the ipod
- aux in - if for some reason in the future the ipod dock breaks, i can run a line from the ipod to the ihome; nice backup
