TAC Tips

"Borrowed" from Abbyloopers.org files, I did not write this:

HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR MEMBERS HAVING A TAC PLACEMENT OR A C-SECTION

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE MEANT PURELY AS ADVICE AND ARE NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE THE ADVICE OF YOUR DOCTOR OR CONSULTANT. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR MEDICAL EXPERT IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL QUERIES YOU REQUIRE ANSWERED.

THESE TIPS ARE FROM EXISTING MEMBERS OF ABBYLOOPERS.

Things you MAY want to bring to hospital with you.

1. Pillow to cover incision on journey home.

2. Magazines/a book.

3. I Pod.

4. Your mobile phone.

5. A portable DVD player to watch a movie while recovering.

Some advice on your stay/journey home/afterwards

6. Some ladies have asked their doctors if they can have their i.pod on during the operation to keep their mind occupied – check this out with your consultant first.

7. Don’t sit in one spot, it really does feel worse if you stay in one position for too long. Move around a lot so you don’t get tender and sore but DON'T over do it! Even if you're just shuffling around your house, it’s good to move.

8. Take medication if you need it! Don't wait or the pain gets intense and takes forever to get it back under control.

9. Take it easy. Don't lift things you shouldn't! (a bag of sugar is 5lbs...use that as a guide)

10. Get lots of rest

11. Drink a lot of water

12. In a few weeks you will feel like you are totally able to do stuff that you probably shouldn't do. Follow whatever timetable the doc gives you (for c-sections it's usually about 6 weeks) and stick to it. That way you won't overdo it and set yourself back.

13. Use a pillow to hold over the incision to cough- splint your fingers too (intertwine them at the fingers) and "hug" the pillow across your belly- it will act like an extra muscle and take a lot

of the discomfort away.

14. If you have to cough, sneeze, laugh etc., make sure you hold a pillow or a folded blanket snugly across your abdomen

15. Laxative's really help in the having to go #2 department....TMI I was terrified to poop after my c-section because I thought all my staples would pop out if I pushed at all.

Ensure you have your painkiller prescription filled out before you leave the hospital.
