A few nights ago I was looking for a good documentary to watch off Netflix. I wanted something that would be putting my time to good use. Not all documentaries are useful, by the way. There are a lot out there that are garbage. I didn't want to fill my head with that so I browsed through the faith & spirituality genre. I found a documentary titled Brother Born Again caught my interest. It was an auto-biographical indie doc. Not a very captivating one. I only made it half way through before turning it off. But from what I did view I got what I was looking for- for God to reveal to me more of His truth. He did this through the eyes of a non-believer. The very person who created, directed, the film. Julia is her name, and her and her brother Marc are the center of the film. The story starts with the death of the sibling's father. Afterward, Marc feels lost and leaves New York to travel. Traveling is on of his passions, or at least it was. In Alaska, Marc is pulled by God to a group of Born Again believers on a reservation they call, The Farm. Here they are a community that stick together. They are a little distance from the rest of society because they see the uncontrollable evil that Satan has hold of the world with. So they stay close and support each other physically and spiritually. They are like the Amish, living in their own world. Only difference being that they aren't living in the 1880s. But here Marc feels God pulling at his heart and he is saved and grows strong in his faith. This is a shock to his family back in New York being that his family is of strong Jewish background. Marc's mother and sister don't understand it at all. They don't understand how he can through away all his life passions and even his family for his new found savior. Marc understood, God bought us at a high price, and He asks a lot of us. Sometimes to throw away our life dreams and desires. Even to put Christ first in our hearts before those closest and most dear to us. So Marc did what God asked of Him and stayed at the Farm. Ten years later, Julia gets tired of the distance between her and Marc. And she isn't speaking of the geographical distance. Although, she still does not understand Marc's decision. She does not understand why her brother cannot except her bi-sexuality and be happy for her being happy with another woman. So she travels to Alaska to give their relationship one last shot. Now this is where God is showing me an example of what I have been thinking about the last couple of weeks... It has to do with worldly wisdom vs. the wisdom of God. God in His most foolishness is still wiser than the wisest of the world's wise men. Julia is the perfect example of a fool. In everything she preaches she backs up with life experience and worldly knowledge. She boasts about bi-sexuality, good careers, and everything she has gained upon this earth. If you want to boast, boast only about your Lord. This wisdom Julia thinks she has, God says He will make the true foolishness of it stand out. Just like the oil stains on a mechanics shirt. That's all it is, the wisdom of this world, oil stains on our clothes. Useless in the kingdom of God. Marc, on the other hand, backs up his teachings and the ideas behind his beliefs completely on the Holy Bible. This bothers Julia. This even bothers one of the viewers of this film whom in their review they posted "The problem some may have, which to some degree bothered me as well, was the fact that he could not actually give his sister HIS opinion without trying to find the answer in his bible. It was like he had no opinion on anything unless his bible gave him an opinion." This review made me laugh a little on the inside. But it also harms me that this, THIS quote right here is what the world thinks of my Fathers holy words! I cannot blame them for Satan controls this world. They do not have the ears to hear God speak and are blind to His light that so directly shines down on us. If someone ever tells you you are just a puppet of a false creator and have no opinions of your own, that you live your life by a manual written by a bunch of political lunatics- take heart, boast in the Lord, and just pray for them. And Love. Show love, for God is love. There would be no love without God. When you show people love, you show them God. That is all we can do for that is the opinion of the world, and time is not making it better.
