Yep, I'll admit it, I'm a Twi-Geek. I've read the books, seen the movies (over and over again) and followed the blogs. There....now it's out in the open and we can all get back to our daily lives. But seriously, I'm not afraid of a couple of laughs at the expense of the Cullen clan...too bad that didn't happen. I went to see this expecting it to be the "Airplane" of the vampire era. Although come to think of it, Leslie Nielsen would have made and awesome Carlisle Cullen.
Everything you want to see in the film is shown in the trailer and the commercial clips, so you may as well save your money and just watch the promos on youtube, you'll get the same thing. Only one part of this parody made me laugh out loud, the fart scene. Now, how high-school does that sound? But, I won't spoil that moment for you.
Rather than bash the film or chronicle it's mocking of the Twilight series I thought I'd point out the highlights of one of the best things about the movie, the cast.
Jenn Proske as Becca Crane (m.f.o. Bella Swan)...this girl was dead-on in her imitation of the oh so gawky one. She captured the expressions, the voice and the entire dork package. The look wasn't entirely there, but I'm willing to overlook that due to the the most awesome impression. Well done!
Matt Lanter as Edward Sullen (m.f.o. Edward Cullen)...Boo! I was not at all impressed with this one. He just didn't have the "va va va voom" that Rob Pattinson has. Yeah, he tried to lure us in with his constipated stare, but it just wasn't working for me.
Chris Riggi as Jacob White (m.f.o. Jacob Black)...Seriously, can I say that if this guy would have played the original Jake in the Twilight series, I may have actually been on Team Jacob. I loved him! (okay, I'm starting to feel a little cougary right about now)
Some of the cast were awesome look-a-likes, in fact I had to look at pictures of the original James, Victoria and Laurent to be sure it wasn't the same actors. And the Black Eyed Peas gag was classic! Others, like Kelsey Ford as Iris (m.f.o. Alice Cullen) didn't look identical but pulled the character off amazingly well.
So I suppose if you aren't expecting any surprise laughs or don't mind jabbing fun of the classic Cullen clan, this movie would be alright to see. But, I'd wait until it comes out on DVD. Seriously...wait for the DVD.
