The Tigers Beat the Yankees
NEW YORK -- Following Sunday's shutout loss to the Royals, manager Joe Girardi said he was tired of discussing the Yankees' struggles against pitchers they had not seen before.

Girardi's team, then, did him no favors on Monday, when a punchless offense sent the Yankees to their second consecutive loss, 3-1, at the hands of Max Scherzer and the Tigers.

Tonight the Yankees and Tigers go at it at 7:05 with all the action right here on 1420 WACK

The Red Wings Win
A four-run first inning powered the Red Wings to a 7-4 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Monday afternoon at Frontier Field.

The Red Wings have the day off and head out on the road for a 3 game series against the Buffalo Bison’s and then on to Lehigh Valley. They’ll be back at Frontier Field on Thursday night the 26th to play Pawtucket.

Tiger is Still High on the Ryder Cup List
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Tiger Woods remained No. 1 in the world ranking Monday, though not even close to that on two lists - the Ryder Cup and FedEx Cup - that mean much more these days.

Woods failed to qualify for the Ryder Cup for the first time - he had led the standings every other time since 1997 - and now must rely on U.S. captain Corey Pavin spending one of four wild-card picks on him.

In a hotel conference room Monday, Pavin sat at the head table between two poster boards, each showing the final standings for the eight American qualifiers. Woods' name was nowhere to be found between Phil Mickelson at No. 1 and Matt Kuchar at No. 8.

Pavin would only say that Woods is "high on my list" and will be a "big consideration" when he announces his selections Sept. 7.

Ohio Bank Robber was a Customer
GALLOWAY, Ohio (AP) - The FBI says a man arrested in an Ohio bank robbery looked familiar to bank employees. Turns out, he had an account there and was one of their customers. Agent Harry Trombitas said 43-year-old Alan Garrett turned himself in Friday, two days after the bank holdup in suburban Galloway.

Authorities said a man wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap handed the teller a note demanding money and he got away with some cash.

The FBI says bank workers got the license plate number of the suspect's car, and the number was traced to Garrett.

Garrett was jailed on one count of aggravated robbery and a $50,085 bond.

Pennsylvania Man 78 Years Old Rides Roller Coaster 90 Times a Day
WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. (AP) - A 78-year-old man rode a Pittsburgh-area roller coaster 90 times in one day - bringing his lifetime total to 4,000 rides. Vic Kleman spent about five hours on the Jack Rabbit roller coaster at Kennywood Park in West Mifflin.

The wooden coaster is no spring chicken, either. It's celebrating its 90th anniversary - the number that prompted Kleman's marathon riding session on Sunday.

The Jack Rabbit has an 85-foot, double-dip drop. Kleman says he's been going on it since 1959,
and usually rides it about 20 times a visit.
Kleman, who lives in nearby Knoxville, Pa., is a member of the American Coaster Enthusiasts.

Police Nab Man in Church Roof After Burglaries
ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police have arrested a man found in a crawl space on a church roof after a series of burglaries at the building. Pastor Robert Reed of Pleasant Word Christian Center says the arrest was made Sunday night. Reed said his church has been broken into 17 times and that the thieves ripped up the church's alarm system, disabled motion detectors and broke out windows.

Reed said 10 air conditioning units were also stolen, which forced church leaders to cancel Sunday services. He said burglars have been stealing copper from the church.

NY Man Finds Prayer Balloon Sent from Pennsylvania
PITTSBURGH (AP) - An upstate New York man says his family has been praying for a Pittsburgh boy after finding a note attached to a balloon that says the child needs a new heart.

Chris Kormanyos is building a home in Messena, N.Y., near the Canadian border and about 400 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
He says a green balloon drifted down onto his driveway Saturday. A note attached read, "We love Zach, we want your prayers to bring him a new heart. Please send a prayer to Zach in Pittsburgh. Pass it on."

Nothing about the boy is known, other than his first name.
Kormanyos told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he and his family.

Would You Give Up Sex to Lose Weight
More than half of all American women would give up sex for the summer rather than gain 10 pounds. And they're not alone. 25% of men said they would do the same thing! That's the word from the Nutrisystem Diet Index, which shows that many Americans are struggling -- and even giving up entirely -- when it comes to losing weight. The survey of 1,001 people nationwide found that 66% of U.S. adults said they need to lose weight to feel sexier. How much weight? The average is 23 pounds. More Americans would prefer to shed 10 to 20 pounds (25%) than get promoted at work (20%). But no matter the desire to be thinner, 46% of U.S. adults have chosen not to diet -- even when they know they need to lose weight -- because they don't want to give up their favorite foods.
